Orion
Orion was strong and handsome. He was a great hunter. Orion fell in love with Merope when he was on a visit to the isle of Chios. Merope's father, Oenopion, said that the two could be married if Orion would get rid of the all the beasts on the island. Orion got rid of the beasts, but Oenopion said they still couldn’t be married.
One night, while Orion was drunk, he did some things to Merope, and her father was very mad. Oenopion blinded Orion while he was still drunk. Orion visited an oracle who said he needed to find the suns morning rays in the east to recover his vision. Orion went on a big quest but finally found the sun god. He was given back his sight.
There are multiple legends of Orion after he regained his sight. One says that Orion came across Artemis in Crete. She was very beautiful, and the two hunted together. Appolo, Artemis’s brother, was afraid that Orion would over control Artemis. Appolo challenged Artemis to hit a speck in the sea. She shot at and hit the speck which was actually Orion. He died. Artemis was extremely sad and placed Orion in the stars to be immortal.
Another version of the story says Orion was boasting of his power. He said he could kill anything no matter how big or scary. The gods didn't want Orion to kill all the animals, so they created a challenge. The gods created a huge scorpion with a strong shell. Orion couldn't kill the creature, and he was stung and died. Artemis was sad and placed him in the stars.
